Matt Smith


Matt was named President of Stratcom in May 2017. Prior to this change, Matt was the Senior Director of Stratcom’s Research & Engagement department, a role he served in for six years. In addition to the oversight of all of Stratcom’s work, required in his presidential capacity, Matt continues to play a lead role in all government-facing Stratcom work. 

Matt brings his expertise in oversight of all operational, client management, and staffing elements of Stratcom’s polling, focus groups, micro-targeting, list enhancement work, Telephone Town Halls, Broadcast Voice Messages, voter ID live calling, and strategic planning. The department saw unprecedented growth and diversification during that period. In his short time as President, Matt has already introduced a new digital tool to the Canadian market: Hustle, a personalized, text-based organizational tool. 

With fifteen years of research and campaign experience, Matt’s specialization at Stratcom includes designing multi-modal research projects, audience analysis and targeting, innovative research methods, campaign planning and execution, strategic planning, and group facilitation.  

Matt holds an M.A. in Human Geography from the University of Toronto where he studied research methods, GIS analysis, and conducted research into visible minority electability and political decision-making when implementing controversial public policies.
